Suppose I'm an employer who is hiring for an open job position for ONE applicant. While no formal educational background is required, a high school diploma, GED, and/or college education is desirable. All that is required is that person gets the job done and respects his/her clients and coworkers. Currently, I have two applicants, but I can only hire one of them, obviously. Here are the two applicants with their unique backgrounds:
Applicant #1: This applicant is an undocumented immigrant, but is an eligible DREAMer under the DACA program (he was brought here to the USA by his parents during his childhood). This person is a [domestically] law-abiding person (has no criminal record) and has a bachelor's degree. He has lots of talent and experience on how to get this job done effectively.
Applicant #2: This applicant is a White (Caucasian), natural born U.S. citizen. He has since dropped out of high school and has had no further education afterwards. Based on public records, he has also been convicted of THREE crimes: assault, rape, and shoplifting. He has neither expressed or have shown how he can successfully get this job done.
Now for you all to decide: Which applicant would most of you prefer me to hire for the job?

Matthew Alan Barreto Dan Fraggetta, I believe those who came in illegally "intentionally" and as an adult should immediately be deported, but my argument is, which it comes to illegals as CHILDREN, I don't see how they are at fault for committing the act. P.S. if you'd like, I'll show you a link in regards to the U.S. general public poll on DACA.

If a kid murders, then the kid murdered. The kid might not be tried as an adult for the murder but probably should be tried as an adult because murder is still murder.

Matthew Alan Barreto I am not a liberal, and I NEVER will be. I'll either continue being a republican or will become unaffiliated if both parties can't make up their minds! In general, I believe that if you're here illegally, you don't deserve benefits here; but this is a different situation, illegals who came in as CHILDREN; they didn't chose to come in illegally, and how could they if their brains are not with that much IQ? In short, being here illegally is serious business, but if you didn't mean to commit such act, why suffer consequences?

Lanell Allmer DACA is just a twisted sneaky way to get people in the country on a faulty foundation. On top of the existing welfare mess, thanks to DACA we now have rootless teens with no adults to take care of them. They are all on Welfare right? DACA obviously bleeds the Welfare system dry . The Welfare system bleeds the taxpayers dry. President Trump should abolish DACA IMMEDIATELY.

The children are the responsibility of the parents from whatever country of origin they came from. As the parents are deported, the child is to accompany the parents. The State does not override the parent's legal authority.
The child's legal status and nationality is tied to the parents nationality.

United States Citizenship is inherited from parent to child. It's not by geographical place of birth. Thus, a birth right is passed from parents to child.

I.E.: If two Mexican nationals have a child while in America, that child is NOT an American Citizen. The child is Mexican. Why? Because United States Citizenship birth right is passed on from Parents to child. One cannot pass on to their offspring what they themselves do not possess.

This is the true law of our Constitution governing birthright citizenship. It's to be "natural born."
The other way is to be "naturalized"; a legal precedent by which a foreigner can become a full fledged American Citizen through legal process.

There is no such thing as an "Illegal Immigrant." That's an oxymoron. There is ONLY a Legal Immigrant or an ILLEGAL Alien (non United States Citizen) breaking immigration law.

A so called "Anchor Baby" is not a United States Citizen. Their only anchor is the nationality of their parents.

Remove

Matthew Alan Barreto That is something YOU need to decide. There is no right or wrong answer! I won't blame you if you prefer me to chose applicant 2. Even though the chances of the current employees in my makeup job would be put in danger if I gave the rapist the job, not everybody was made to have a high IQ! In other words, nobody is perfect! I am autistic, and I never failed my driving test. My mom is non-disabled, and she only failed the driving test once! See? We're all unique!

Bobby Reynolds
Bobby Reynolds I gave my answer in the thread. Hire neither and wait until you have qualified applicants. However, I would say to the illegal immigrant, because he has such an impressive education and seemingly strong work ethic, that I would gladly sponsor and give whatever support I could for him to take the necessary steps to become employable. I would then encourage him to apply for and work towards his citizenship even though he should have taken that responsibility seriously and already completed some of those steps if he was looking to be employed by a reputable company.
I'm sure as the hypothetical employer you have already thought about all this and realized that every problem has a viable solution and possess the foresight to know that you just simply could not hire some people whether you wanted to or not.
As I also said in my post within the thread of comments, if you present a problem only you're doing nothing to make a difference. Simply adding to the problem. If you want to make a difference then offer solutions.

Remove
Joey Arnold
Joey Arnold Matthew Alan Barreto how can you be both for and against sanctuary cities? A sanctuary city is simply a collection or group of illegal aliens. That is what it is. You can go there and find illegal or undocumented people you could hire. You cannot or should not distinguish between the individual illegal and the city of illegals. The first is singular and the second is plural. Both are illegal and justice for all requires them all to be deported out of the country right now. Close the borders. Build a wall. Do not let new people in.

Patti Eddie Hampton The citizen is here legally - and is a criminal. The non-citizen is here illegally, therefore is also considered a criminal. Not as bad as a rapist, etc., but still considered criminal. Is it criminal to hire a non-legal immigrant? That is what you'd have to ask yourself. If it's illegal to hire him because he isn't a citizen, looks like you're stuck with the rapist ? If that were me and it wasn't illegal to hire an illegal immigrant, that's most likely who I would do with. However, this is definitely a hypothetical 'thing' here... so I would be looking at a 3rd applicant.

Matthew Alan Barreto Huh, nobody other than these two are willing to accept such a low-paying job; they've been unemployed for years and are begging to be employed.

Paul Gugger Matthew Alan Barreto I am a huge Trump supporter as are a number of my mexican American friends, I have no problem with the Mexican people and I believe something needs to be done to make the immigration process faster, that being said I don't want anybody from any country to be able to come here illegally. people need to be vetted.

Joey Arnold Paul Gugger new right... and vetting is good. I agree. We should try to hire legal people. Illegal people need to be deported.

Kimberly Brantmeier Sturms My husband and I agree that #1 is a good choice, however, if they're not going to try to become legal citizens, forget it. Choosing 2 would be dangerous. Try a #3?

Matthew Alan Barreto Kimberly Brantmeier Sturms if applicant 1 wasn't going to try to become a legal citizen, he wouldn't be in DACA, would he? To be in DACA, as an illegal, for instance, you have to WANT to become a U.S. citizen. DACA doesn't provide its services automatically; they, the illegals, have to seek it themselves!
